Entry Porch and Upper Floor Addition/Remodel
A small family home has been transformed with the replacement of an existing covered porch with an expansive covered porch/outdoor living area, and the expansion of the upper floor with new roof and dormers. A modular structural layout and a set of carefully displayed and articulated structural members and custom-designed steel connectors provide a space that feels both simultaneously open and protected, framing views out onto the large front yard and southern sky. The long horizontal wood bench doubles as a display area for the owner's bonsai collection. The design creates an ineffable sense of integration between parts and whole.
