Ravine Residence
A new home sited on the edge of a ravine with a small river below. The plan and forms evolved to respond to the three primary foci: a dynamic north-western view into the ravine, sunlight arriving from the south, and an existing concrete farm silo. The entry is across a small bridge in the silo. A broad wall with extensive glazing spreads out facing directly south to welcome sunshine and winter passive solar heat gains. The main living area and master bedroom above step partially over the ravine edge with large windows to embrace the sweeping views across and down the stretches of the ravine below. A carefully detailed exterior terrace extends dramatically out over the ravine edge.
